PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - The death of a patient at Central State Hospital in Petersburg is being investigated as a homicide. A hospital spokesman says the state medical examiner’s office determined that 22-year-old Justin L. Davis of Alexandria died from asphyxia due to neck compression.

NORFOLK A 19-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in September 2009 was taken into custody today in Virginia Beach. Ryan Nelson Johns was being held in the Norfolk City Jail on charges including murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and robbery, said Chris Amos, Norfolk police spokesman.

RALEIGH, N.C. A North Carolina government and budget reform panel formed by Gov. Beverly Perdue says she should consider ways to make Medicaid and the state’s motor fleet more efficient. The General Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill that will keep Virginia anglers in compliance with a federally-ordered national registry. Because of several saltwater fishing license exemptions, Virginia was non-complaint with the National Saltwater Angler Registry. That would have forced state anglers to sign up for the registry and pay a yearly fee starting next year of between $15 and $25.
